Abstract

The study examined the relationship between bulk shipments, Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) practices, and organizational performance at Ugachick Poultry Breeders, Kampala Branch. A case study research design was employed with a sample of 85 respondents comprising management staff, procurement officers, warehouse personnel, and sales representatives. Data was collected through questionnaires and document analysis, then analyzed using correlation and regression techniques. Results indicated significant positive relationships between bulk shipment practices and organizational performance (r=0.716, p<0.01) and between EOQ implementation and performance (r=0.683, p<0.01). Organizations practicing optimal bulk shipments and EOQ strategies experienced 28% higher inventory turnover rates and 22% lower holding costs compared to baseline periods. The study concluded that strategic bulk shipment scheduling combined with rigorous EOQ calculations significantly enhanced operational efficiency, cost management, and overall organizational performance. Recommendations included adopting computerized inventory management systems, conducting quarterly EOQ reviews, establishing strategic supplier partnerships for bulk delivery coordination, and training personnel on inventory optimization techniques.
