Ayebare Phionah, Kamugira Apophia
Digital Marketing website and Local Tourism Destinations
The study aimed at the role of digital marketing in promoting local tourism destinations in uganda, case study (Igongo cultural center) and it was guided by the following objectives; To find out the effects electronic marketing on tourism development in uganda, to examine the challenges faced by the tourism sector in Uganda and to examine the relationship between electronic marketing and the tourism development in Uganda. A quantitative content analysis was also performed to analyze over 100 social media posts and website pages of Igongo Cultural Center to ascertain the tone, messaging, calls-to-action utilized and their effectiveness in different time periods. Quantitative methods provide comparisons and statistical aggregations of data. Typically, quantitative method is characterized by the use of close ended questions for yes or no answers a set of defined answers like Likert scale (for example, strongly agree or strongly disagree) which can be qualified, measurable and comparable to provide numeric results. As shown in the figure 37% of the total respondents are ‘agree’ on the implemented strategies as well enough, 33 % of the respondents are ‘disagree’ on it, 13% of the respondents have answered ‘don’t know’, 10% of the respondents are ‘strongly disagree’ and 7% of the respondents are ‘strongly agree’. If we categorize the given alternative options in three divisions such as positive, negative and neutral, meanwhile ‘strongly agree’ and ‘agree’ come under positive which means well enough and it holds altogether 50%, similarly ‘strongly disagree’ and ‘disagree’ comes under negative which means not well enough and it holds 43%, and the option ‘don’t know’ could be considered a neutral which has 7%. Thus, the result shows that there is not such a vast difference between the respondents who thought digital marketing implemented is well enough and the respondents who thoughts it is not well enough. The strategy should aim to increase awareness of the destination by 50% among both domestic and regional tourists, and drive a 30% surge in website traffic and visitor numbers by the end of year 3. To achieve this, we suggest focused campaigns on search, social, email and partner channels. Addressing key gaps identified, we recommend optimizing the website for improved searchability and a better user experience with responsive design. Regular updated engaging content should be published along with callsto-action for ticket bookings, events and guided tours.

Women In Development Programs And Gender Based Violence At A House Hold Levels In Uganda: A Case Study Of Nyakinama Sub-County Kisoro Municipality
Tumwesigye Hope, Zigira Sam
Women Development Programs Gender Based Violence and House Hold Levels
Gender-based violence (GBV) is undoubtedly one of the most common forms of violence in the world. Recent multi-country studies, using a common methodology and definitions, have found high prevalence of physical and sexual violence against women by intimate male partners. GBV acts at household level include; beating, stabbing, burning, murder, wife inheritance among others (physical abuse); forced sex (sexual abuse); threats of abandonment or abuse, confinement to the home and threats to take away custody of the children (psychological abuse); denial of funds, denial of food and basic needs, and controlling access to health care, employment to mention but a few (economic violence). The objective of this study was to explore and describe the relationship between GBV and women participation in development programs especially at household levels in Nyakinama Sub County, Kisoro district using a sample size of 50 respondents. This study was purposive by design. It involved a combination of both qualitative and quantitative methods, where the quantitative method involved the use of questionnaires and qualitative method involved the use of interviews and focus group discussions. The study found imbalances of power in gender inequality and discriminatory patriarchal practices against women to be root causes of GBV, where patriarchal attitudes often favor men over women. The study found out that GBV has negative impacts on the household’s wellbeing. Household productivity in terms of food reduces and the survivors can lose jobs whose end result is increased poverty characterized through isolation, vulnerability, powerlessness and physical weakness of the survivors but also GBV perpetrators. Some of the direct costs include treatment and support for abused women and bringing perpetrators to trial and the indirect costs include days of work lost (by both the abused and the abuser). The study recommended that preventing the recurrence of violence and mitigating its consequences are essential to any comprehensive effort to reduce GBV. Such responses must involve multiple sectors in the community, from law and justice to education and health.
