Service reliability and its impact on customer loyalty among communications companies in Uganda. A case study of Airtel Uganda Limited
Kamoga Ali
Service reliability customer loyalty communication companies and Airtel Uganda Limited
Service reliability refers to the ability of communications service providers to consistently provide their services to customers without any disruptions or failures. This study aims to examine the impact of service reliability on customer loyalty among leading communications companies in Uganda, using Airtel Uganda Limited as a case study. Airtel Uganda is one of the largest mobile network operators in the country, competing against other major players like MTN and Africell to attract and retain customers. However, as customer expectations for high-quality and uninterrupted service continue rising in the digital era, communications providers must ensure optimum network performance and minimize service downtime to satisfy subscribers and encourage continued patronage. Through a combination of quantitative and qualitative research approaches involving questionnaires, interviews and secondary data collection, this investigation seeks to determine the relationship between Airtel's network uptime and downtime records over the past three years and metrics like subscriber retention rates, churn levels, complaint volumes and brand perception scores. The research also gauges customer satisfaction with Airtel's network coverage footprint, data speeds, call connectivity rates and responsiveness to outage situations through their feedback. By identifying key aspects of service that most impact customer satisfaction and switching decisions, the study aims to provide Airtel with actionable recommendations on network optimization strategies, service disruption mitigation plans and loyalty programs that can help strengthen bonds with clients and drive sustained growth in this intensely competitive industry space. Findings revealed that there was a weak positive correlation (r=.250) between service reliability and customer loyalty. Since the correlation does not indicate causal effect in terms of the percentage variance in the dependent variable caused by the independent variable, a coefficient of determination (rho2=.063), which was a square of the correlation coefficient was computed. The coefficient of determination was expressed into percentage to determine the effect of service reliability on customer loyalty. This revealed that service reliability accounted for 6.3% of variance in customer loyalty. Introducing well-publicized service level guarantees and compensation policies can assist in rebuilding reputational trust after past disruptions while expanding self-care digital channels may alleviate overwhelmed support infrastructure stresses.

Ariyo Gracious Kazaara
GDP tax rates tax compliance burden and debt sustainability
This research paper aims to empirically analyze the interlinkages between taxation policies implemented by the government and macroeconomic performance trends observed within the key district of Kampala, Uganda over the past decade from 2010 through 2020. Utilizing an array of time series data procured from reliable sources such as the Uganda Revenue Authority and Uganda Bureau of Statistics, a rigorous analytical methodology is undertaken leveraging statistical software programs SPSS and Stata to identify relationships between quarterly tax revenue aggregates, real gross domestic product, sectoral output indicators, and assorted control variables through descriptive statistics, bivariate correlations, multivariate regression modeling techniques including ordinary least squares, two stage least squares, and vector autoregression while accounting for potential endogeneity and serial correlation concerns. The results provide robust evidence that prudent, business friendly tax systems played an indispensable role in facilitating Kampala's dramatic transformation into one of Sub-Saharan Africa's fastest growing regional hubs amid continuous expansion of total tax proceeds and robust synchronization with macroeconomic indicators. However, the analysis also exposes critical challenges constraining optimal impact such as overdependence on indirect taxes vulnerable to external shocks, rampant noncompliance amid lax enforcement, disproportionate incentive schemes lacking transparency, and deficiencies in public services partly attributable to chronic revenue shortfalls. The tax compliance burden had a moderately strong positive correlation of 0.545 with tax rates adopted in the economy. This correlation was statistically significant at the 1% level. It implied that higher tax rates tend to increase the paperwork and compliance costs borne by taxpayers. Simplification of complex tax codes and rationalization of tax rates could help reduce such administrative onus on businesses and individuals. Hence, the paper concludes by recommending strategic policy reforms centered on broadening the tax base, strengthening administration, rationalizing incentives, and prioritizing efficient social spending to maximize sustainable, inclusive development opportunities through Uganda's principal taxation framework serving as an instructive case study.

To analyze the data, thematic analysis was utilized as the qualitative approach. All coded data sets were entered into SPSS Version 27 software for managing and interpreting emerging patterns. Frequencies and cross-tabulations aided in determining relationships between variables like platforms used, story formats, and impact outcomes. The unstandardized regression coefficient B value of 0.395 indicated that for every one-unit increase in technological advancements, humanitarian intervention increased by 0.395 units on an average. The t-value of 9.585 for technological advancements was greater than the critical t-value of 1.96, making it statistically significant. The significance value of 0.000 which was less than 0.05 confirms technological advancements as a significant predictor.
