Nagumya Ruth, Freeman Crispus
Media communication and Humanitarian Intervention
The study aimed at the influence of media on humanitarian intervention. a case of south-Sudan embassy and it was guided by the following objectives; To determine the relationship between technological advancements and humanitarian intervention, to determine the relationship between media ownership and humanitarian intervention and to determine the relationship between advertising revenue and humanitarian intervention. Open-ended questions were also incorporated for explanatory qualitative follow-ups aligning primary and secondary strands (Creswell, 2014). Semi-structured interview guides were similarly designed and pilot tested as moderating instruments for qualitative data collection from key informants allowing emergent themes to arise within structured parameters. Data was analyzed using IBM SPSS for descriptive statistics comprising frequency distributions, measures of central tendency, variability and standard errors as well as Spearman’s correlation and structural equation modeling to verify relationships. From the findings, there was a very strong positive correlation between technological advancements and humanitarian intervention. Nearly 89% variation in humanitarian intervention can be explained by technological advancements. The regression model which uses technological advancements as a predictor variable was highly significant and can explain around 79% of the variations in humanitarian intervention. Technological advancements have a significant impact on and accurately predict levels of humanitarian intervention. For every unit increase in technological advancements, humanitarian intervention increases by 0.395 units on an average. Technological advancements were a statistically significant predictor of humanitarian intervention as indicated by the t-value being greater than the critical value and the significance value being less than 0.05. Based on these results, some recommendations for strengthening this relationship include: government and private partners should allocate more funds to media organizations to support their humanitarian reporting and advocacy work; capacity building initiatives are required to enhance media's role in emergency communications; collaboration between aid groups and media needs to be expanded further so that people's needs can be better represented.

Climate change policies, innovations aimed at decreasing the consequences and risks of climate change, climate risk assessment, and the effects of Uganda's climate change responses were all presented as study questions. A qualitative research design was used in the study, which included assessment of documentary sources as well as interviews. It was revealed that Uganda has implemented many policies related to climate change, according to a thorough analysis and presentation; however, a closer examination pointed that a number of policies were ineffective and did not directly address the issues of climate change. Several innovations for mitigating the consequences and hazards of climate change were also used though were insufficient. The report acknowledged that climate risk assessments were being conducted with little success and the responses had achieved some level of success in mitigating climate change's effects. Uganda government, as well as other non-governmental working groups on climate change, should step up the efforts in terms of tangible responses in the fight against global warming if the struggle against climate change is to be won.

The Role Of Eco-Tourism On The Development Of Local Industries. A Case Study Of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Kobusinge Juliet, Nakimbugwe Sophie
Eco-Tourism Development And Local Industries
The role of ecotourism as a means of influencing the path of local development or encouraging conservation activities was not unproblematic. Indeed, an increasing body of literature not only challenges the assumed benevolence of ecotourism but critically questions the role of ecotourism in contributing to the greater social and economic justice so often assumed under these programs. This paper sought to contribute to this growing body of critical literature through an analysis of the impact of ecotourism on the everyday lives of rural villagers adjacent to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda, paying particular attention to the social forms of access to and control over the process through which decisions about ecotourism take place. Drawing on a year of ethnographic-based fieldwork, this paper focused on how the commodification of Bwindi as a product of wilderness, a wild and un-spoilt destination marketed to foreign visitors, promotes the external control of conservation spaces by international organizations that ultimately contribute to, rather than alleviate, poverty and dependency in local communities. Beyond providing just another case study, however, this analysis argues that the ‘new’ relations between people and parks created under ecotourism in Bwindi have in actuality created new forms of control and vulnerabilities. 80% of the respondents said they were following what they had learned. This answer raised doubt. Most of the respondents thought the investigator was a spy to nab those involved in illegal activities. The Government of Uganda should improve on the security in the major tourist areas with a view to correct Uganda’s tarnished image after the massacre of eight foreign tourists in the Bwindi by the Rwandese (Hutu) Interahamwe.
